Figma, Articulate Storyline
Many university students struggle with correctly formatting citations in APA style due to the numerous rules and guidelines involved. This often leads to errors in academic papers and reports across a variety of subjects, impacting students’ grades and their understanding of proper source attribution. Traditional instructional methods, such as static guides or lectures, often fail to engage students or provide opportunities for practical application of APA formatting rules.
To address this challenge, I designed an interactive APA Reference Game in Articulate Storyline, allowing students to actively practice identifying correct APA citations. Instead of simply presenting rules, the game lets students select the formatting they believe is correct and receive immediate feedback, reinforcing learning through engagement and application. The course is accessible to all students at West Coast University, ensuring that learners across disciplines can develop the essential skills needed for accurately citing sources in their academic work.
Following its launch, the APA Reference Game led to a 30% increase in student accuracy when formatting APA citations and a 90% boost in learner confidence in applying APA rules. Survey feedback showed high engagement, with 88% of students preferring the interactive format over traditional resources and job aids.
